TRANQUIL HEART: A Summer of Endless Possibilities Safety, Resources, and Recreation for Children from Eastern Ukraine in Portugal
Promoting Safety and Opportunities for Young Survivors of War
This is the story of a project that has brought hope and happiness to the lives of children who have seen the hardships of war. It’s about giving them a chance to experience a joyful summer in Portugal, along with access to resources and opportunities for further growth.
Project Objective
Our goal is simple: to create a safe haven for children from Eastern Ukraine who have endured the effects of war. We aim to help them regain their physical and emotional well-being. This project is designed to provide these children with a break, a chance to acquire new skills, and a platform to unleash their creative potential.
Project Implementation
The “TRANQUIL HEART: A Summer of Endless Possibilities” project was divided into two phases, with 26 children from Eastern Ukraine taking part. Each group had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a summer vacation in Portugal, engage in various activities and workshops, and enhance their physical and psychological well-being.
The results were remarkable: the children returned with improved health, new skills, and unforgettable memories. Notably, the project garnered significant media attention, featuring on Portuguese channels and even the globally renowned news channel, CNN. A CNN camera crew went as far as Ukraine, including Lviv, to highlight the project’s importance and shed light on the ongoing war in Eastern Ukraine.
The “TRANQUIL HEART: A Summer of Endless Possibilities” project has already yielded meaningful outcomes. The first group of children experienced improvements in both their physical and psychological well-being. They were provided with a safe environment, allowing them to momentarily set aside the anxieties and stresses that accompany life in a war-torn region.
Results and Impact
Integral to the project was imparting skills to these children that will serve them in the future. They learned to collaborate in teams and develop creative thinking.
This project serves as a real-world example of how collective efforts can transform the lives of children amidst conflict. We firmly believe that every child deserves safety and opportunities, regardless of their circumstances, and we will continue to work tirelessly towards achieving this goal.
